Jerold Douglas McCurtis
Jerold Douglas McCurtis passed away February 2, 2009.
Jerold was born June 20, 1954 to the late Hardy Jesse McCurtis and Geraldine
Vivian Samuels. Jerold spent most of his youth in St. Louis, Missouri where he
attended local schools. Upon graduation from Lincoln High School, he enlisted
in the United States Marine Corp. Jerold served seven years and retired as a
Sergeant. After honorably serving his country, he moved to Daytona Beach,
Florida where he met his lovely wife, Denia Strachan, of 14 years. He started
his career as a crew member for the City of Daytona Beach; where after years of
hard work was promoted to the Head Purchasing Clerk in the Central Stores
Department. Due to his commitment, he was recognized by The City of Daytona
Beach and received an award for Service.Jerold was a devout SGI Leader and
supported the practice of Nichiren Buddhism. He held a deep belief in
respecting nature and all humankind and was known around the neighborhood for
his friendly demeanor and helping hand. Jerold enjoyed many outdoor activities,
such as fishing and tennis. When not enjoying his favorite past times, he could
be found at home unwinding to his vast music collection. He loved people of all
walks of life, but he especially loved his family. He is survived by his wife,
Denia; step-mother, Fannie Mae McCurtis; his son, Jerold, Jr.; two
stepdaughters, Tetra and Varinia; grandson, Dorien Matthew McCurtis;
step-grandchildren, Cameron Davis, Jordan Davis, Jada Davis and Joshua
Williams; his sister, Cynthia Moyo (Cookie); brother, Hardy McCurtis, Jr.
(June); and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and sorrowing friends.
Visitation, will be today (Friday, February 6, 2009), at Herbert Thompson
Funeral Home from 5:30 until 8 p.m., and the service will be held at 1 P.M.,
Saturday, February 7, 2009, at Herbert Thompson Funeral Home, with the Reverend
Corwin D. Lasenby, Pastor of New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church,
officiating.

Age 81 Indianapolis died Aug 12, 2001. She was an accounting clerk 31 years for Fort Benjamin Harrison, retiring in 1979. Services 11am Aug 18 in Church of God in Christ Sanders Temple, with calling there from 5 to 7pm Aug 17. Burial Crown Hill Cemetery. Survivors children Darryl, Carolyn Hampton, sister Patricia Walker, 4 grandchildren. Lavenia & Smith Home for Funerals is handling arrangements.
